Two of Serie A’s great entertainers go head to head this as free-scoring Atalanta host reigning champions
and current league leaders Inter Milan at the Gewiss stadium on matchday 22 and look to derail Inter Milan.
Why You Should Be Watching
Atalanta is fighting for the top four and have an outside chance of contesting the league title but know victory
here is crucial. They remain on the edges of the title race but taking all three points would catapult them back
into the thick of it. Inter Milan are the current leaders and are showing no signs of slowing down but there’s
still plenty of football to be played this season.
Usually, when both these teams clash it’s certain for it to be a spectacular display of Italian football at its highest order. Inter Milan will look forward to getting a win to continue their 8 games unbeaten run in the league and a 5 game unbeaten run across all competitions since losing to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu(UCL). Also that Inter Milan recently won the 2022 Italian Super Cup, so they will go into this game with high morale. Atlanta has not been on the same level as inter but looks to fight to the end for 3 points.
Inter Milan will once again be without the services of Stefano Sensi, Arturo Vidal, and Christian Eriksen for the game. Summer signing Joaquin Correa was a major doubt for the contest due to a pelvic injury he picked up. However, he trained with the squad on Friday and may be able to play some part when they travel to Atlanta and will be most likely to play their main strikers Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko.
Simone Inzaghi will set his team up in a 3-5-2 formation on Saturday evening with club captain Samir Handanovic taking his rightful place between the sticks. Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, and Alessandro Bastoni are the undisputed starters in the three-man defensive unit as they look to stop the threat of Duvan Zapata. Out wide, Denzel Dumfries ought to play at right wing-back The Dutchman’s pace will be key to keeping a lid on the dangerous Robin Gosens. Ivan Perisic, who was also on target in the last game.
Formation – 3-5-2
Defence:- Skriniar, de Vrij, Bastoni.
Mid-field:- Dumfries, Barella, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Perisic.
Forwards:- Martinez, Dzeko.
They will miss the services of Gosens and Zapata. The former will be back next week, the latter is starting to push. There is a very outside chance that Duvan Zapata will manage to recover in time but Robin Gosens looks destined to watch the game from the sidelines.
Formation – 3-4-1-2
Defense:- Demiral, Palomino, Toloi
Mid-field:- De Roon, Koopmeiners, Zappacosta, Maehle
Forwards:- Muriel, Zapata.
Inter are looking to score in 40 consecutive Seria A games, which would be only the third instance of a team doing this
in the history of the competition. Whereas Atlanta is going to try doing what they did last season by getting back their form
and try-scoring a lot of goals again. Despite working to a vastly inferior budget than its rival, Atalanta continues to punch above its weight in Serie A, with the Bergamo side again sitting in the top four, as it aims to qualify for the Champions League for the fourth season in a row. Inter Milan are sure favorites to win this game and this season but we are sure that Atlanta will put a strong fight.
