Manchester United v/s Tottenham Hotspurs : Match Preview

Introduction

It would be Mourinho’s 2nd visit to his previous den after being sacked from Old Trafford on the most hostile terms. Clearly there’s no love lost between the two sides. As a result, the Portuguese would want to relish a chance to get back at his previous club and management. Both teams, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs, are entering into this game in great form.

Manchester United finished their last match comfortably with a 3-0 win over Brighton in EFL Cup. On the other hand, Spurs thrashed their opponents Maccabi Haifa 7-2 in Europa League playoffs. Harry Kane is on a deadly run from the start of his 2020/21 PL season scoring 6 and assisting 6 in 7 matches in all competitions.

Injury News

Both Lo Celso and Son are expected to miss this clash due to injury problems

Son, who also was in great shape for Tottenham suffered a hamstring injury against Newcastle on Sunday and had to taken out at half time. This could prove to be a significant blow for Mourinho’s side with an out of form Dele Alli trying to fill in his boots. Lo Celso is also doubtful to play against Manchester United after picking up a knock at Thursday’s game. New signing Gareth Bale is yet unfit to make his debut due to knee injury.

Manchester United don’t have any major injury concerns at the moment as Ole confirmed that Maguire should be fit to start against Spurs. Manchester United will be fresher and better equipped than Spurs comparatively. This is due to the hectic run of 7 games in 19 days for Mourinho’s side. Whereas United have played 4 games in 12 days in which they were able to rotate the team with the likes of Juan Mata and Odion Ighalo stepping in to provide some rest to the starters.

Offence-Si , Defence-No

Manchester United Tottenham Hotspurs
Rashford and Harry Kane will undoubtedly be the key to their team’s performances in this fixture

Tired minds and legs can often lead to mistakes and both teams have the attacking talent to capitalise on any errors made at the back. Manchester United have scored three goals in each of their last three matches in all competitions, all of which they have won. Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and van de Beek are all off the mark in the Premier League, while the likes of Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba will be eager to chip in.

As for Spurs, they have plundered 19 goals from their seven matches. Six of those came in the league in the league itself. Harry Kane’s hat-trick on Thursday night should be a clear indication of his brilliant form. Attacking may not be an issue for these two teams but defending certainly is, with Spurs failing to keep a clean sheet in their last eight games while United have conceded in both league matches.
