FPL Gameweek 24: Team Selection

Introduction

Last week’s results were somewhat unexpected. While some fixtures finished as anticipated, others might’ve shaken the spectators. Two of the biggest shockers were Man Utd’s draw and the defending champs’ humiliating defeat at their home ground. This week we will witness double fixtures for some teams so keeping that in mind we will be discussing the FPL squads. We will also be discussing certain players that one would want to have in their FPL squads but might be unavailable for various reasons. Let’s look at this game week team now.

GOALKEEPER FOR FPL

Nick Pope

Nick Pope (BUR- £5.5m)

Just for this week, we would recommend Pope as the goalkeeper. Burnley will have 2 matches this week; against Crystal Palace and Fulham. Keeping in mind that both these teams are average when it comes to their offense, it should be relatively easy for Pope to make some saves and fight for a clean sheet. On a personal level for the England international, this week can be pivotal for his international duty selection and further cement his spot in Gareth Southgate’s England XI.

DEFENDERS For FPL

John Stones (MCI- £5.2m)

Last week he managed to score past Alisson but was caught offside. To have a Man City defender and maintain the funds, John Stones is the go-to man. The league leaders have 2 very challenging fixtures ahead this week; against Tottenham and Everton. We fancy having Stones this week and expect him to get those FPL points. Out of the current defenders, Stones seem to be more active in the goals department so that’s an advantage of having him.

Matt Targett (AVL- £4.7m)

An important block and a clean sheet against Arsenal ensured a narrow victory for Villa and 7 points for Targett in FPL. This week Villa will face Brighton away from home. 3 points are crucial and we fancy Matt contributes to the goals as well as in the defense.

Matt Targett and Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (MUN- £5.6m)

He has been more active in the attacking side lately and his FPL points tally is no less than impressive. This week United face West Brom; an easy fixture on paper and we fancy AWB to contribute in the goals just as usual.

MIDFIELDERS For FPL

Ilkay Gundogan (MCI- £5.9m)

A brace against Liverpool last week, an assist against Burnley, 7 goals in his last 6 games. His form has risen like the Phoenix from its ashes. With his current form, we would have him every week till the season ends because we just don’t know when he will pull off something out of the blue. Given the player and the price he costs in the FPL, he is a must to have in your squad. A captaincy contender.

Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling (MCI- £11.6m)

2 goals in his last 2 games. He is one of the leading talismans for Pep at the moment with no #9 currently available. Their goals have been coming from Gundogan and Sterling on a regular basis and given their double game week, we fancy the above 2 mentioned players to fetch goals for their sides as well as the FPL points.

Bukayo Saka (ARS- £5.3m)

He was voted as Arsenal’s POTM for the 2nd time in a row, the young English winger has been very influential in Arsenal’s attack. The past 2 matches were quite disappointing given what he can offer but this week Arsenal faces Leeds Utd. A very important fixture for the Gunners to stay in the top 8. We fancy him contributing to the goals this week.

Tomas Soucek (WHU- £5.4m)

After a disappointing red card in his last fixture, West Ham appealed against the decision and won. Meaning the Czech midfielder will be available for his side’s match against a struggling Sheffield Utd. Soucek has now scored 8 goals and is quite a in form. Hoping that he will carry his momentum forward, we fancy him scoring a goal this week. hopefully, our bid on him will pay off.

Bruno Fernandes (MUN- £11.5m)

He is arguably the most crucial player in Ole’s squad right now. He is the driving force in United’s attack. Having him would mean a great boost in this week’s FPL as Man Utd face West Brom this week. we fancy him contributing to the goals this week.

FORWARDS For FPL

Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (EVE- £7.7m)

Everton will have 2 games this week; against Fulham and Man City. Everton has an easy fixture first but the second fixture will be tricky. They will have to tread very carefully this week but momentum is on their side. DCL seems to have regained his lost form as he was the key man last week against Man Utd where is spectacular performance helped his side salvage a point at Old Trafford. We fancy him scoring goals this week and hopefully a lot of goals to help his side bag points and us win the FPL points. A captaincy contender.

Patrick Bamford (LEE- £6.7m)

He 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 3 games. His form is nothing short of impressive at the moment and he is expected to carry his momentum to the Emirates this week as his side prepares to face Arsenal. The Gunners are currently struggling in form. Leeds has the perfect opportunity to win all 3 points against this vulnerable side. We fancy Bamford contributing to goals this week.
