German football is going in a very fiesta fashion, as Matchday 14 is here. Bundesliga has promised more goals over the years and it is the same since its inception. We can accept many goals this matchday in the German League, preferably in a game we are talking about. It is a battle going on for ages and to date, it has given astonishing results till date. We are talking about Der Klassiker, who played between the German heavyweights, FC Bayern Munchen, and Borussia Dortmund. Though this season, this game has more impetus on the future of the league, as they will fight for the top spot. It is a rather very hardest fought battle for the squads, but we will see some beautiful football entertainment.
What separates this clash from the rest
The biggest footballing event in Germany is the Der Klassiker or the “German Clasico” played between the two arch-rivals of German football. The rivalry dates back to 1965 when the match was played for the first time between them on the 30th-October. Since then, it has turned out to be one of the fiercest club rivalries in Germany as well as Europe. Whenever the Reds-of-Bavaria and the Yellows of Dortmund take to the stadiums, we see thousands of fans thronging the place. This is itself a great indication of what these matches mean for the club fans as well as other German people. There is absolutely no reason in the world that can stop you from watching this high-voltage clash from home.
The 2012-13 Champion League finalists are also engaged in a Tom-and-Jerry race for the trophy this year as the two teams are separated by a mere point only. No wonder that both the teams would be highly desperate to win this fixture to claim the top spot. A Bayern win would take
them four points clear of Dortmund at the top spot. On the other hand, if Dortmund wins, they will overtake Bayern to regain the top spot. Let’s see which team will get the better of the other and gain a major advantage in this topsy-turvy Bundesliga title race. The action will get underway tomorrow at 21:30 at the Signal Iduna Park.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side is plagued by a host of injuries in their squad. A number of key players will miss the game owing to injury or some other cases. Joshua Kimmich is still recovering from COVID-19 and will sit out. New signing Marcel Sabitzer will also be out due to an injury. Apart from that, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is also out due to thigh strain. Sven Ulreich, Bouna Sarr, and Tanguy Nianzou are also expected to feature in the long list of absentees. Nagelsmann will have to somehow manage the game without these players.
Similar to that of Bayern, Dortmund is also missing a number of key players due to injury. All of Mateu Morey, Marcel Schmelzer, Gio Reyna, and Moukoko is injured and won’t feature in the team list. Jude Bellingham is doubtful for this game having missed the last game on account of a knee injury. The biggest boost for MarcoRose will though be the return of star striker Erling Haaland to action last week against Wolfsburg. Raphael Guerreiro might also return as a left-back which means Marius Wolf could drop to the bench. Roman Burki and Thorgan Hazard also join the list of doubtful for this match. Other than these players, Rose has the rest of the squad available for playing.
Head to Head
The two Bundesliga giants have faced each other for a record 131 times to now. Bayern has a clear advantage in the head-to-head rivalry with 65 wins out of the total contested. Dortmund has registered 34 wins and the other 32 have ended with all square.
In the most recent meeting between the two sides, Bayern outclassed Dortmund in the final of the DFL Supercup. A Robert Lewandowski brace coupled with a fine Thomas Mueller strike handed the Bavarian giants a big win. Dortmund will have redemption in their mind when they lock horns with Bayern for this all-important clash.
Players to watch out for
- Donyell Malen
The Dutch Striker has a lot to prove on his side. With just 2 goals in 13 appearances, he is in the eyes of scouts of the world already. This big day is the time he proves himself as a valuable asset Dortmund possesses. In the past few games, he has been worthy, but in this game, he has to be his very best.
2. Mats Hummels
The guy who has experience from both the dugouts is going to be the key guy for Dortmund’s defense. He has a great hold on the ball, is good with interceptions, and is the most experienced guy in the Dortmund dressing room. He is the man who will create some chances tomorrow.
FC Bayern Munchen
- Robert Lewandowski
If we are talking about Der Klassiker in recent years, we cannot leave this guy out of action. He is the greatest finisher Bayern has on board. With 14 goals and an assist on his name, he is the machine to look out for.
2. Leon Goretzka
The Bavarian youth icon, Goetzka has clearly impressed many in the city of Munich. His intelligent playmaking abilities with his runs make him the popular face in the dugout. He is the main guy in the holding midfield department.
It is all a battle of ifs-buts and huffs and puffs, but football remains constant. It will be a challenging game overall, and it hopes to be an interesting contest. It is fair, it looks like Bayern has an upper edge over Dortmund but don’t let the sheets trick you. It will be a beautiful game of German classics to watch out for, and a clear fan-pleasing to be hoped. So, you know the drill right? Pick your lucky seats and get your refreshments ready, it is a game of football you might not want to miss.
