The Transfer window has shown us many shocking transfers a well many upsetting deals from the clubs. We cannot predict the transfers, though we can lay some checks on transfers this year. One of the biggest talks of this transfer window has been Raphael Varane linked to Manchester United. The French defender, playing for Real Madrid has been reportedly looking for a move away from the Spanish Capital in pursuit of a new challenge. On the other hand, United has been tracking the defender since 2011, when he declined a move to England and chose Spain. So, when it was made clear, that Varane wanted to play in the Premier League, it was obvious that the Red Devils would be the first choice.
Varane who will be out of contract next year was offered a new contract by Madrid which was rejected. Since then, the club has reportedly said the Frenchman is free to talk with other clubs with exit imminent. It Is said that personal terms will not be a problem and can be negotiated easily. Also, since Varane is in the last year of his contract, the transfer price will not be as high as it should be. Having played in La Liga for 10 years now and have won all the possible trophies. Premier League should be a good step up but we are left with official confirmations still.
Why does this transfer make sense for United as well as Varane?
Ever since the eras of Vidic and Ferdinand, United’s defence has never been the same. Well, it is also for the fact that United themselves have not been the same since Sir Alex’s departure. However, Ole’s appointment has brought hope back within the Mancunians and it is not wrong. The start was slow, but United showed the potential the squad had albeit not winning a trophy last season. Maguire’s signing was a sign of intent, however, his price tag and his early performances made him “overrated”. Although Maguire was phenomenal last season, there seemed a lack of a good defensive partner with good on-the-ball abilities. Lindelöf has been good in phases and Bailly has been inconsistent.
Signing a world-class defender like Varane, who is still in his prime and has played at the highest level possible, is exactly what United needs right now. Varane who is a comfortable on-the-ball will add new aspects to the defence of the Red Devils. To win the title, a good defensive partnership is very important. As seen by the recent success of their noisy neighbours, Manchester City, after they signed Ruben Dias.
As for Raphael Varane, having already won all the possible trophies with Real Madrid, a new challenge is imminent. Also, after his mistakes against Manchester City, the Blancos were doubtful whether the Frenchman is the perfect heir for Ramos. After Ramos’ departure, there will be even more added pressure to fill in Ramos’ absence. It may also have an impact on his performances, as seen before.
All in all, a move to Manchester United, will be a challenge to test himself in a different league which will help him be a better player. Also, there will be less pressure playing for United when compared to Madrid.
How is Real Madrid benefitted from this transfer?
While we are looking at how this transfer is beneficial to one club, another club is surely benefitted. If you ask me, then Real Madrid is planning for the big summer next year, with over 175 million already in the bag. They will be benefitted from this money for their future signing. Real Madrid has plenty of players on their bench, causing a Problem of Plenty. So, they might want to offload some big names to give places for the youngsters.
As their playing area is concerned, Militao and their new signing Alaba might start. Vallejo and their academic prodigy Victor Chust are also fighting for their places. Fans are really pissed after losing El Capitan after his PSG transfer and Zidane after his sack. Varane is considered as their French Wall and might not want this transfer to happen. But still, we cannot say anything right now.
The possible transfer looks way too much possible due to its balance maintained in both the squad. Real Madrid is very 50:50 with their choice, whereas Red Devils will go all-in for this transfer. This has to be the best transfer window for Man United, considering their dream signings becoming true. There has to be some spice before the football begins, or else what will be the fun than just to look forward.
