But Since it’s the first few days of 2021. We decided that we will keep it positive. Here’s a list of 8 players that surprised the footballing world in big old 2020.
PLAYERS
1)Bruno Fernandes
While it will be wrong to say that he was not firing on all cylinders in 2019 as well, but no one except a section of United fans would have thought that Bruno Fernandes will become the player that he is right now. The Portuguese have almost single-handedly dragged the United side at the joint top of the table. If he plays like this, a legendary status of the game is guaranteed.

The 39 years old, returning from the old shelter of MLS. His transfer to AC Milan was a laughing stock. But he’s Zlatan. His goals have fired AC Milan at the top, if not for the injury he would have been counted as one of the best players in the world. At the age of 39. Still, won’t count this as a surprise.
3) Timo Werner
From being called the next German sensation to the German Morata, the second half of 2020 has not been kind on turbo Timo. Since his transfer to Chelsea, everything has gone downhill. On paper, his numbers look good enough for any player trying to set in the premier league. But his on-field habit of missing sitters is something that has incensed the Chelsea fans and the football fans in general.
4)Soucek and Antonio
It was a difficult choice to include 1 West Ham player so the inclusion of both these players is not out of line. West Ham began this year with 1 in 11 but what a turnaround it has been since the project restart. These 2 along with Bowen have been a revelation this season.
5) Leo Messi
This year has been a big surprise for the fans of this Talisman. Be it his on-field performance or his off-field antics. Some section of the Barcelona fans agrees that he should have been sold in the summer. Something that couldn’t have been imagined a year before. Arguably the best player to have ever played. There is little doubt that he’ll bounce back.
6) Calvert-Lewin
He has seen a meteoric rise since the arrival of his Italian manager, giving him a start in the national team as well. He is now one of the best headers of the ball in the world. DCL is an amazing goal poacher, he’s been one of the biggest surprises of this year. If Everton wants to play in Europe, he has to be at the top of his game.
7)Domenico Berardi
Serie A high flyers Sassuolo bolster this Italian, who has been a key part of this success. Part of the front 3, he can play anywhere in the front 3. In 2019-2020 he doubled his output of 12 G+A of 2018-19. It’s been an excellent year for this once forgotten talent.
8)Luka Modric
He has been the best Midfielder in La Liga this year (2020), his form after project restart ensured that Real win their record La Liga title but it’s his general game since September that has turned many heads. A veteran of the game he played almost 10 Football games in 30 days for club and country and to match that the 35-year-old has been sensational. One of the greatest midfielders ever performing at the highest level at the dawn of his career is a big surprise.
